The Palatka Blue Crab Festival was May 29 - 31.  Your Humane Society was there with some great adoptable cats and dogs as well as some fun fundraising opportunities.  We found FOREVER homes for 14 dogs and cats, including a number of older companion animals.
We need to thank the Blue Crab Committee and Sherrell Mack, in particular, for letting us have some of the best space available (complete with grass and a river breeze); also St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Crescent City for the loan of 2 huge tents; the folks at the Presbyterian Church for the use of their tables and chairs; the City of Palatka Police Dept for the loan of their ticket booth; and all our volunteers, staff, donors, adopters and visitors who are invaluable to us.

We had a great time at the Azalea Festival in Palatka on March 6th and 7th.  We found homes for 8 of our animals, and made some money to run the shelter for a couple days too!  Special thanks to Linda Wells, Marla Woods, Dona Holt, Reno Fells, Christine Wolfred, Freddie Williams and Keith Mehl for helping us raise money with our first doghouse fundraiser.  Thanks to Bill Amick and Pat Holloway too, for donating their share of their Dog Chip BINGO winnings.   We have some really great supporters! Thank you all!!!

Mike DePriest and DePriest AirConditioning and Heating have come to our rescue once again.  After donating a replacement air conditioner (and labor) for the stolen Thrift Store A/C unit back in late summer, they have now resurrected a defunct heating system for our kennel runs.  In addition to a new heater, Mike and his crew installed all new duct work for a nominal fee that MAY have covered his out-of-pocket for permits and metal.

The Neuter Commuter is making a significant "dent" in the pet overpopulation problem in Putnam and surrounding areas. We're transporting about 30 cats and dogs to FCNMHP's spay and neuter clinic in Jacksonville weekly! Call for more information!

WOOFStock '09 pictures are here. Special thanks to our sponsors - Rozier's Oil, WWR, Inc., Southern Air, and a few more. ALSO, the musicians - they were all great! Click here for more info and pics.

Thanks also to Danny Buchanan for building a great "cage" for our new air conditioner!

Congratulations to your new Board of Directors. Thirty-three members came out to vote on Thursday, Dec 17th, and affirmed the Nominating Committee's Slate (click here). The 11th At-Large Director will be write-in, Ellen Snow.

The first annual downtown Palatka Halloween Parade on 10/31/09 was fun.  A lot of members showed up with their beloved pets, and a good time was had by all.  Thanks once again to Dr. Roy for volunteering his time and talent to keep us entertained.  Mark your calendars for next year...
